Commercial Plumbing Estimator
Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Commercial Plumbing Estimator to become part of our employee ownership team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of plumbing and piping systems, applicable building codes, and a proven track record of producing accurate, detailed estimates for commercial plumbing installations, renovations, and design-build projects.
Responsibilities:
- Review project plans, specifications, and proposals to prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial plumbing and piping systems.
- Perform detailed take-offs, including material, equipment, and labor calculations for plumbing scopes.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure competitive and complete pricing.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Analyze project specifications and blueprints to determine scope of work, identify potential risks, and provide value engineering options where applicable.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients—particularly on design-build projects—to develop cost-effective and code-compliant plumbing solutions.
- Assist in conceptual estimating, budgeting, and design development during preconstruction phases.
- Stay current with local, state, and national plumbing codes and regulations to ensure compliance in all estimates.
- Attend pre-construction meetings, design coordination meetings, and site visits as needed to gather information and assess project conditions.
- Prepare and present clear, comprehensive, and timely estimates, including scope clarifications and assumptions
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial plumbing estimating.
- Proven experience with design-build and/or design-assist project delivery methods.
- Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary waste & vent, storm drainage, gas piping, specialty systems, etc.) and construction processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schematic designs accurately.
- Experience with CAD and/or Revit is a plus, especially for coordination and take-offs.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively work with clients, vendors, engineers, and internal teams
