Faucets

Thermostats
Set your thermostat as low as is comfortable in the winter and as high as is comfortable in the summer.

Filters
Clean or replace on a regular, consistent basis. Most furnace and air conditioning filters should be replaced monthly or quarterly.

Hot water radiators

Heating devices and outlets (such as warm-air registers, radiators, or baseboard heat)
Be sure to clean these as needed and that they are not blocked too closely by furniture, drapes, or carpeting.

During the heating season
Keep drapes, curtains, and blinds open on the south side of your home to let the warmth of the sun in. Conversely, keep all of the above closed on the north side of your home and close all blinds, drapes, and curtains at night to help keep the cold out and the warmth in.

During the cooling season
Keep drapes, curtains, and blinds closed, especially on the south side of your home to help keep the heat out and the cool in. Consider how your landscape plantings are arranged and what type of plants that you use to aid in heating and cooling efficiency for your home. Consider shrubs and trees that help shield the warm side of your house in the summer months and trees that act as a windbreak on the northwest side or your yard for the winter months.

Exhaust fans
